"Never would I have thought mucking about in an overgrown backyard in Mullumbimby would have dominoed into a short film. It’s not just weeds that grew in that backyard – it was ideas! Originally a five-page comic, The Bindii Wizard was an experiment to push the “bogan” narrative further, into something more fleshed out, grandiose… and fatter. A lot of Australiana comedies rely on stereotypes, and I wanted to challenge the notion that these archetypes can’t be complex, foreboding even..."

" ... Ultimately, this story is about radical acceptance – even if life keeps giving you problems again and again. I see myself in Missy, being young and having a lot of heart, whist feeling frozen by the millions of pressures modern life throws at us. But, even when the world is against Missy, whether that be her housemates, or the literal destruction of Brisbane, she’ll get back up and keep trying. I’m hoping that through the absurdity of the film, viewers can walk away knowing that optimistic persistence pays off. "
